Giulio Cappellini is one of the most influential figures in contemporary Italian design. Trained as an architect in Milan, he is widely recognised for his role as art director of Cappellini, where he helped discover and support many important international design talents. His approach is defined by curiosity, experimentation and a deep understanding of how design can move between function, art and emotion.
For Flaminia, Cappellini has played an especially important role. He has been art director of the brand since 2004 and has designed iconic products including the Acquagrande washbasin collection and, with Roberto Palomba, the Link sanitary fixtures. Flaminia also lists him as the designer of Settecento, a washbasin inspired by holy water fonts found in baroque churches, and Fontana, a round Pietraluce piece combining the function of bath and shower tray.
Cappellini’s work is important for designers because it brings a strong editorial and architectural voice to the bathroom. His Flaminia pieces often treat ceramic as a sculptural material, creating products that feel distinctive while remaining grounded in Italian manufacturing quality.
