Nendo, Oki Sato

Oki Sato is the founder and chief designer of nendo, the Tokyo-based design studio he established in 2002. Born in Toronto in 1977, Sato completed a Master of Architecture at Waseda University in Tokyo before founding nendo in the same year. The studio works across product design, furniture, installations, interiors and architecture, with a style known for quiet ideas, subtle humour and refined simplicity.

For Flaminia, nendo has designed several distinctive ceramic projects, including Pinch, Roll, Box and Taki. Roll is described by Flaminia as resembling a coiled paper ribbon, while Taki uses three ceramic elements arranged like small terraces, evoking the movement of water in nature.

nendo’s work is ideal for designers looking for bathroom pieces that are minimal but not ordinary. The studio’s products often begin with a simple gesture, then turn that idea into something poetic, functional and memorable.
